If you are new to soap making, this is a simple and fun way to start making your own soaps and gifts. Make special shapes for kid’s birthday parties, baby showers, wedding favors, Valentines Day, Christmas presents, or hostess gifts! Soap Characteristics: · 100% Pure Soap · Finest Natural Vegetable Oil based – No animals tested or animal products used (unless purchasing goat’s milk soap) · Hypo – Allergenic · Non Comedogenic (won’t clog pores) · Odorless · Transparent (except when white is added) · Excellent lather! · High glycerin content (attracts moisture to the skin) · Gentle on sensitive skin (used on all my grandchildren) · No Detergents · No Sulfates · No Alcohol · No Sugar Solutions · Easy to work with Soap Ingredients: Shea Butter: (5% added naturally crushed shea butter) This is a white soap base with added shea, gives off creamy lather while promoting moisture and softening. · Coconut Oil · Shea Butter · Palm Oil · Castor Oil · Safflower Oil · Glycerin (kosher, of vegetable origin) · Purified Water · Sodium Hydroxide (saponifying agent) · Sorbitol (moisturizer) · Sorbitan Oleate (emulsifier) · Soy Bean Protein (conditioner) · Titanium Dioxide (mineral whitener used in opaque soaps) Basic Melt and Pour Instructions: The soap base is ready to melt in a double boiler, which I prefer (more even melting at lower temperature) or in a microwave (20-30 seconds spurts at a time until you get familiar with your microwave temperature). Some microwaves are more powerful than others and you could burn soap by over heating. Next, after soap has melted down you can add cosmetic approved color and/or fragrance if you like. Stir and pour into plastic molds. Let set up for about an hour, until solid. Put into the freezer for about 15 minutes. Take out of the freezer and turn upside down and push on mold with thumbs to release soap from mold. You can use right away or wrap in saran, stretch, twist extra and cut off excess saran. Stick a label over cut saran and you have a nice gift to give away! This is only the beginning!!! There can be endless creativity. You can layer colors; shred, chop, one color soap and put into a regular mold or log mold and pour another color over. Always spray soap pieces or layers with Isopropyl alcohol (buy at pharmacy) before you pour more soap over them. The alcohol enables the two soaps to stick together, otherwise the layers or pieces of soap might split apart after set up. After you get the basics down you can add cosmetic glitter, herbs, pumice, loofha bits, and many other things to the soap. To get additives to float and not sink to the bottom you will let the soap cool a bit. It is a bit tricky and takes a little practice to find that ‘correct stage’ to pour, so it is not too thick or thin. Too thin and additives sink to the bottom. Too thick; difficult to pour into mold. Don’t forget that you can remelt and try again for practice as long as you are using one color. I am always happy to answer questions if you need some help.
