Fresh from the warm waters of the Gulf of Mexico just off the docks of Tarpon Springs
LOT OF FIVE 6-INCH NATURAL GOLDEN YELLOW SEA SPONGES
Perfect for bathing! Gentle enough for baby!
All of our sponges are freshly harvested from the warm waters of the Gulf of Mexico, just outside of Tarpon Springs, Florida. Our sponges are the best in the world and the sponge docks of Tarpon Springs is reputed to be the worlds best location for natural sea sponges. Thousands of tourists flock to our shops every day of the year just to purchase our fresh sponges.
All of our sponges are processed immediately after they are harvested. Golden yellow sponges are soft and perfect for bathing. They are also gentle enough to bathe babies and small children. The larger ones are excellent for window washing and even washing your car. With care, these sponges will last you 5-7 years.
If you are into arts and crafts, they are also great for faux painting, pottery, and ceramics, although I just couldn't bear to put one of my precious sponges in paint!
They are also perfect for home decor!
Did you know?? The hurricanes of 2004 and 2005 have completely destroyed most of the natural sea sponges in the Gulf of Mexico. What sponges survived the hurricanes were destroyed by last summer's red tide which lasted more than 10 days. As a result, our divers are having to search longer and harder to find any sponges at all. Often the boats return empty. And because sponges only grow at a rate of 1-inch per year, it will take 5 to 6 years before we have another nice crop of sea sponges again.
Did you know? Sponges are always measured wet, not dry. When they dry, some sponges will shrink to half of their size wet. That makes the sponges appear smaller than they really are, but it sure is easier to pack them and ship them to you when they are dry!
